Salary Calculator
Convert an annual salary into hourly, weekly and monthly pay, before and after US tax.
How this calculator works
Enter your gross annual salary, your usual working pattern and your filing status. CalculatorWonder applies the 2024 US federal income tax brackets, the standard deduction and FICA (Social Security and Medicare) to estimate your take-home pay per hour, week, month and year. You can also add an average state and local income tax rate. This is the US version; versions for other countries are coming soon.
A salary offer quoted as a yearly figure is hard to compare with a job that pays by the hour, and even harder to map onto a monthly budget. The Salary Calculator converts a gross annual salary into hourly, weekly, monthly and yearly pay, then applies US tax to estimate what you actually take home. Enter your gross salary, your usual working pattern, and your filing status, and the tool does the rest.
The tax estimate uses the 2024 US federal income tax brackets, the standard deduction for your filing status, and FICA — Social Security and Medicare taxes. You can also add an average state and local income tax rate, since those vary widely across the country and can materially change take-home pay. The result is a realistic picture of what each paycheque will look like, not just the headline number.
This is the US version; versions for other countries are coming soon. The figures are estimates for general guidance and do not capture every deduction, credit, pre-tax contribution (such as a 401(k) or health insurance premium), or filing situation. For a precise number, use the IRS calculator or a qualified tax professional.
Everything runs in your browser as you type — nothing is stored or sent to a server. Results are estimates for general guidance and should not replace advice from a qualified professional.
Frequently asked questions
How is take-home pay estimated?
The calculator applies the 2024 US federal income tax brackets and standard deduction for your filing status, then subtracts FICA (Social Security and Medicare). An optional state and local rate can be added on top.
Does it account for 401(k) or health insurance deductions?
No. Pre-tax contributions, benefits and individual tax credits are not modelled. The result is a general estimate, not a substitute for a full paystub or tax software.
Which countries does the Salary Calculator support?
Currently the United States, using 2024 federal brackets and FICA. Versions for other countries are planned.
